We live in a world where selfies, Tik Toks, and “doing it for the gram” are a prevalent part of our daily lives. When it comes to your wedding day, there will be plenty of Instagram-worthy moments that your friends and family will want to capture. Actually, this is encouraged by many couples getting married (especially when there’s a wedding hashtag involved). However, an exception should be made for the most important part of the day. Here are 3 reasons every wedding should have an unplugged ceremony:
An unplugged ceremony is basically a fancy way of asking your guests to turn their phones off. Or at the least, silence them and keep them in your pocket until the ceremony has ended. Most couples will have cute signage displayed to let the guests know that cell phone use is not welcome. Alternatively, they will have the officiant make an announcement before the ceremony has begun. Some couples will do both- which I also highly encourage!
Now that you know what an unplugged wedding ceremony is, let’s get into why it matters.
Your wedding ceremony will be something you want to be fully present for, and the same goes for your beloved guests. Watching you through the camera app on their phone screens isn’t going to cut it. They should take in the moment with you, totally distraction-free. The overall vibe of a wedding is so much more intimate and genuine when people are focused on what matters… YOU.
You hired a professional photographer for your wedding for a reason. Let your photographer do their job to their highest capability by leaving the photo taking to them, and only them. Of course, your guests may be eager to capture the first kiss after saying “I do”. Unfortunately, nothing ruins wedding ceremony photos easier than a sea of hands and iPhones obstructing the view of the couple.
Additionally- you can have photos that show your guest’s genuine and emotional reactions to the ceremony, being that their faces won’t be hidden behind their clunky devices.
When you finally get to lay your eyes on your highly-anticipated wedding photos, you’re going to enjoy them SO much more! Without an unplugged ceremony, you probably will have already relived your first kiss twenty-seven times through Instagram stories and Facebook posts. It gives you, even more, to look forward to after the wedding day has ended.
I hope these three reasons why every wedding should have an unplugged ceremony have you convinced that this trend is, undoubtedly, the way to go.
